Social Mobility
Social mobility is the movement of people across socioeconomic strata between generations. It is a crucial element in escaping poverty. Semi-skilled laborers worldwide had little social mobility even before COVID-19. Due to pandemic-related school closings, more than half a year’s worth of education was lost. The impoverished are particularly affected by the learning deficits brought on by such interruptions in the educational system. Since education is a key component of social mobility, these issues have stalled millions of impoverished people from escaping poverty.
