Our Initiatives
Pandemic Relief
Individuals and families are more likely to experience poverty as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and its related economic effects. As of May 2021, there were over 9 million jobless people in the country, up to 8 million children and 19 million adults suffered food poverty, and over 10 million tenants were overdue on their rental payments. Black, Indigenous, and Latinx communities have seen greater rates of illness, hospitalization, and mortality as well as unemployment. The disability community has also been disproportionately impacted by factors such as high rates of death in institutions for the elderly, unequal vaccine distribution, and a delay in the payment of stimulus funds to recipients of Social Security and Supplemental Security Income.
